During the Q&A, Redford elucidated on the The Sutherland Institute issue; they're a right wing Utah policy group, touting recent anti-Sundance protests with the tagline: "Utah should stop supporting Sundance because the acclaimed festival shows films that are obscene and contrary to Utah taxpayer's values."
Redford contends, "Often the narrowest minds bark loudest. If we pull the festival--we pull out 80 million dollars of revenue. That's how much the local economy benefits during one week of the festival. Regardless of all that, Sundance offers a wide array of film choices. Attendees aren't ever forced to go see this or that. My advice to people with such an extreme opinion, is 'go read the constitution'.
