. . . to catch a couple of the lesser known Academy Award nominees before Sunday's ceremony: Argo, Amour, and Beasts of the Southern Wild are all showing in Salt Lake City at the Broadway Centre Theatre this weekend. Attending a film at the Broadway is not only good entertainment, but it goes to support the rad Salt Lake Film Society.
As for me, I'll be doing two things this weekend, pre-Oscars:
1) Viewing the iconic Vagina Monologues by playwritght Eve Ensler at Utah Valley University. The play's mission is to break silence around issues of heretofore taboo subjects, and is part of a worldwide Vday movement to try to stop violence against women. Showings are at 7 pm Friday, February 22nd and 3 and 7 pm on Saturday, February 23rd. Tickets are ten dollars at the door, and all proceeds go to benefit Utah Rape Crisis Center and the Provo Women's Center.
2) Checking out Digging for Belladonna, directed by Franka Potente, at BYU International Cinema. Remember how hot she was in Run, Lola, Run? I want to see if she's just as hot as a director.
